Lake Coeur d’ Alene Tubs Hill 3^rd St.

Head to the Coeur d’ Alene resort and park in their boat launch parking lot on the east side of the hotel. Parking is free for the first 2 hours, which should be plenty of time. We will meet near the Tubs Hill trailhead, suit up, walk out to the end of the dock and giant stride in. 

This is an easy entry and exit. Depth at Tubs Hill can range from 15’ to 100’, depending on what you want to do. There are 3 shear cliff walls that stair step down, first from 15’ to 30’, then 30’ to 50’, then 50’ to 85’. A good place to work on buoyancy skills is to swim level between the top and bottom of these walls.  There is a cool boat at 95', and some old structure swim-throughs at about 50'.

The bottom is rock and silt (of course!) with some plant life in the shallow water by the docks. There are some fish, mostly perch, crappie and bass, and the bass will often follow your bubbles for a while, or – if you hold still – come right up to your mask to look at their own reflection. There is the normal CDA Lake trash, including pier pilings, barge pieces, logs, cables, pipes and more bear cans then you can imagine – many from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I once found a 40mm launch grenade here (see: http://www.scubaboard.com/t35209.html) where the kids jump off the hill, and the Air Force came to my house and took it away. So you never know what you’ll find!
